Lord Krishna (Jagannatha)

brahmaṇā proktaṃ jagannāthastotram

(Brahmana Proktam Jagannathastotram in English (IAST))

Also known as Jagannath Stotram · Brahma Krita Jagannatha Stotram · jagannath stotra

Brahma's praise of Jagannath, taken from the fifty-seventh chapter of the Brahma Purana, where it stands as verses thirty-three onward. It is built on a single repeated word — jaya, victory — laid against name after name: victory to Krishna Jagannath, destroyer of every sin; to the slayer of Chanura and Keshin, and of Kamsa; to the lotus-petal-eyed, bearer of discus and mace; to the one dark as a rain-cloud, giver of all happiness; to the lord of the worlds, granter of what is wished for. The last verse drops the praise and simply asks: I am sunk in the terrible ocean of worldly existence, sapless and foaming with sorrow — save me, Purushottama.
