नवरात्रिNavratri

Also called Navaratri · Durga Puja · Sharad Navratri · Dussehra

Nine nights given to the Goddess in her nine forms, kept with fasting, the kalaśa, and the reading of the Devī Māhātmyam from beginning to end.

When it falls

The nine nights from the first to the ninth tithi of the bright fortnight of Āśvina, closing on Vijayadaśamī. Vasanta Navrātri falls in Chaitra, and two gupta Navrātris in Māgha and Āṣāḍha.

The tithi, not a date — the calendar date is a pañchāṅga reckoning and differs by region. Check your local pañchāṅga for this year.

The Reading

The Durgā Saptaśatī is read across the nine days, whole or in parts. It is not read alone: the Kavacha, the Argalā and the Kīlaka open it and the Siddha Kuñjikā closes it — one set, in that order.
