Goddess Lakshmi

कराग्रे वसते

(Karaagre Vasathe)

This verse is often chanted early in the morning to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Sarasvati, and Lord Govinda. The hands are viewed as sacred, and the act of gazing at them in the morning is believed to bring wealth, knowledge, and divine protection throughout the day. Goddess Lakshmi at the fingertips represents wealth and prosperity. The fingertips symbolise action and work - suggesting that prosperity comes through the work we do with our hands. Sarasvati in the middle of the palm represents knowledge and wisdom. The middle of the palm is where we hold things, suggesting that we should hold onto and cherish learning and wisdom in everything we do.
