Lord Rahu

śrī rāhu pañcaviṃśatināma stotram

(Sri Rahu Panchavimshati Nama Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as shri rahu panchavimshati nama stotram · shree rahu panchavimshati nama stotram · rahu panchavimshati nama stotram

Twenty-five names of Rahu from the Skanda Purana, and they are unusually candid about who he is and whose side he was on. He is the counsellor of the danavas and the delight of Simhika's mind; the half-bodied one, always angry, the crusher of moon and sun; a daitya; Svarbhanu; the terror of the sun. Two names give the whole episode in passing — the drinker of nectar, and the one who longs for the day of the full moon — since it was by stealing the nectar that he became immortal from the neck up and by that appetite that he swallows the moon. Then the planet: king among the seizers, whose look is the look of time, of terrible form and great strength, tusked, red-eyed and great-bellied. One name places him inside the older theology, the one who dwells in Shrikantha's heart.
