Asita

Also known as asita krit shiva stotra · asita krita shiva stotram · asita muni shiva stotram

The sage Asita's hymn to Shiva, opening on the relation the whole piece keeps to: teacher of the world, salutation to you, to the auspicious one and the giver of auspiciousness; foremost among the lords of yoga, salutation to the teacher of teachers. What follows works through his names in a steady, unornamented way, without the paradoxes and the negations that the philosophical Shiva hymns favour. Its closing verse is domestic in a way those hymns almost never are, and tells you plainly who recited it and why: the man without a wife obtains a wife, well-conducted and devoted to her husband; having enjoyed happiness in this world, at the end he goes to Shiva's presence.
