ഹനുമത്പഞ്ചരത്നസ്തോത്രമ് (ബീജാക്ഷരാത്മക)

Five verses of seed-syllables, which is what the title means in calling itself made of bijas: every quarter-line opens with one syllable stuttered three times — sham sham sham, vam vam vam, ram ram ram, mam mam mam, ksham ksham ksham — before the sense of the line begins, so that the hymn is half mantra and half description. Rama's envoy, tamer of the elephant of battle, skilled at the cutting down of Ravana; in the form of a child, and making the disc of the sun tremble. Its sixth verse is the practical heart, and is simply a catalogue of places to be afraid in: in battle and among enemies, crossing the sea, with tiger and lion and snake, at a king's door and on the road, in a mountain cave, in barren country, where bhutas and pretas are, in the domain of the planets, in an outbreak of pox, in fever and vomiting and headache.
