प्राची सरस्वती - रुद्रावर्ते कुरुक्षेत्रे
(Prachi Saraswati)
Also known as rudravarte kuruksetre puskare sristhale tatha prabhase
A single verse, and a geographical one rather than a devotional one: it names the five places at which the Sarasvatī is called Prācī, the eastward-flowing — Rudrāvarta, Kurukṣetra, Puṣkara, Śrīsthala and Prabhāsa, the fifth of the fords. The river that the Ṛgveda praises as the greatest of rivers had already vanished from the surface by the time the epics were written, and verses like this one are how the tradition kept its course on record: not as a map but as a list of the tīrthas where she was held still to appear, to be recited when bathing at any of them. It is quoted on its own rather than as part of a longer hymn, which is why the record holds one verse and no frame, and it is the shortest text in this cluster by a wide margin.
Script: Devanagari (देवनागरी) — also the script of Hindi, Marathi, Nepali and Konkani.
