Goddess Sita

śrī sītā jī kī āratī

(Shree Sita Ji Ki Aarti (Hindi) in English (IAST))

Also known as sita ji ki aarti (hindi) · ji ki aarti · arati sri janaka dulari ki sita

A Hindi arati in three stanzas whose middle one carries the whole argument. The first is conventional enough — mother of the world, dweller in Saketa, supremely merciful, lifter of the fallen. The second turns to her marriage and refuses to describe her as someone things were done to: crown of faithful wives, doer of her husband's good, who went from forest to forest in his service, and then the line the song is built on, that for her husband's sake she was the one who accepted separation from her husband. What follows calls her the very image of the dharma of relinquishment. Only after that does the arati come back to what it does for the singer: the spotless fame spread through all the worlds, and the mind made clean at the mere taking of the name.
