(Sri Arya Ashtottara Shatanamavali)
Also known as shri arya ashtottara shatanamavali · shree arya ashtottara shatanamavali · arya ashtottara shatanamavali
A hundred and eight names of Arya, framed at both ends by the Vedic invocation of Durga: the nyasa is performed with jatavedase sunavama somam, and the verse is set down in full before the names begin. The meditation between them is the well-known one of the lion-shouldered goddess, bright as a band of lightning, terrible, attended by maidens whose hands flash sword and shield, herself bearing discus, mace, sword, conch, arrows, bow, bowstring and the raised forefinger. The names keep to the older stratum — Katyayani, Kumari, Vindhyavasini, the skeleton-bearer, the one adorned with the ghonasa snake, the thick-shanked, the terrible-formed — and end on Bhramari, Narayani, and one wholly given to rescuing the afflicted who come for refuge.
