The hundred and eight names of Buddhi, one of the two goddesses attendant on Gaṇeśa, and the list is a course in Vedānta rather than a description of a figure. She is named as arisen from the root fire and destroyer of root ignorance, unconditioned Mahāmāyā, Śāradā, of the nature of the praṇava, seated at the mouth of the suṣumṇā; then Brahmavidyā, Mūlavidyā, higher than the highest, of the form of awakening, reached through the meaning of the great sayings. A remarkable stretch gives her a household made of the disciplines themselves: Discrimination and its like are her retainers, Calm and its like her servants, Devotion and its like her attendant women. Others place her at the navel and the throat centres and call her the destroyer of rajas and of tamas, the splitter of the knot of the heart, and the mother of discernment.
