Lord Shiva

అభిలాషాష్టకమ్

(Abhilashaashtakam in Telugu)

Also known as abhilashashtakam · shiva abhilashashtakam · ekam brahmaiva advitiyam

Eight verses that argue rather than describe, and the argument is strict non-dualism carried into a hymn. The first verse states it as a scriptural citation would: one brahman alone, without a second, is the whole; truly, truly, there is no manifold thing here; one Rudra stood, not a second — therefore I take refuge in you alone, Mahesha. The second turns the same point on his forms: you are the maker and the taker of everything, Shambhu, one form among many forms and yet formless, as the inner principle is one and also many. The last verse pushes it to its limit and stops there: from you is everything and you are everything; you are Gauri's lord and you are naked, utterly at peace; you are old, you are young, you are a child — what is there that you are not?
