ভৈৰৱ দ্ৱাৱিংশতি নামাৱলিঃ

Twenty-two names of Baṭuka Bhairava as a short litany, and the shortest of the Bhairava name-lists here. It opens by naming him lord of Baṭuka and the essential one, then lord of the lord of the three worlds and lord of lords — a doubling that is the list's method throughout, since it prefers relation to description. What follows sets him beside the goddess as Kālikānātha, the lord of Kālikā, and then gives him the ordinary offices of a guardian: the giver of what is desired and the protector of the worlds. The brevity is the point of a list this size; twenty-two names can be told between one act of worship and the next, where a hundred and eight or a thousand cannot, and lists of this length exist for the daily rite rather than the occasional one.
