Goddess Manasa

मां मनसा देवी की आरती

(Manasa Devi Aarti)

Also known as jaya manasa devi maiya jaya manasa

A short Hindi arati to Manasa, and it says who she is in its second line rather than making anyone wait: the sister of Vasuki, and the mother of the serpents. What follows keeps to that office. She takes away poison and lifts her devotees out; she is the giver of health as well as of wealth, and she wipes out disease and blemish, which for a snake goddess means one thing rather than two. The observance is named exactly, the fifth day of the fortnight, when the crowd comes and flowers and food are offered; that is Naga Panchami, and it is the day her worship belongs to across eastern and northern India. The last verse puts Narada and Brahma and Shankara among those singing her arati, which is the form's usual way of settling a disputed goddess into the older company.
