Lord Surya

śrī sūrya stutiḥ (manu kṛta)

(Sri Surya Stuti (Manu Krita, Saura Purana) in English (IAST))

Also known as manu kruta surya stuti · manu krita surya stutih · surya stuti saura purana

Seven verses spoken by Manu in the opening chapter of the Saura Purāṇa. They are almost entirely salutation, and the epithets are chosen for reach rather than for warmth: the choiceworthy one and the giver of boons, garlanded with rays, made of light, endless, unconquered, the eye of the three worlds, three-natured, deathless, dharma itself, the swan, the cause of the world's coming to birth. One verse gives him a body that is at once man and woman; another sets him in one place, in two, and in many at the same time. Then comes the identification — you are Śiva, you are Hari, you are Brahmā, you are the lord of heaven; you are Oṁ and Vaṣaṭ, you are Svadhā and Svāhā — and the last line closes the door behind it: apart from you, the supreme self, I see no other deity at all.
