പുത്രപ്രാപ്തികരം ശ്രീമഹാലക്ഷ്മീസ്തോത്രമ്

From the Karavira Mahatmya — the glorification of Kolhapur, where Mahalakshmi has her temple — and given there to Parashara, recited by those wanting a child. What is striking is that a hymn with so domestic a purpose is written in the highest register available: I salute you, whose form is without beginning and without end, the mother of all embodied beings, whose form is Vishnu's own, Mahalakshmi, the supreme mistress. The second verse says she stands in the world under the appearance of name and class and the rest, and salutes her again in the same words. The refrain runs through the whole piece, so that the asking is never spoken directly; the hymn simply establishes who she is, and lets the title say what it is for.
