श्री पार्वती जी की आरती

The best-known Hindi arati to Parvati, sung to the refrain jaya Parvati mata, and it moves between three registers without pausing to reconcile them. She is the eternal brahman and the giver of good fruit; she is the destroyer of the enemy's line and the protector of servants; and then she is simply a figure to look at, on her lion, wearing earrings, with the wives of the gods singing and dancing where she is. The middle verses give her history a line apiece — of beautiful conduct in the first age and named Sati, then born in Hemachala's house and colouring the days with her friends — before turning without warning to Shumbha and Nishumbha torn apart and a thousand-armed body taking up the discus. Its last verse names the poet, Shri Pratap, and promises lasting ease to whoever sings it.
