श्री आञ्जनेय मङ्गलाष्टकम्

(Shri Anjaneya Mangalashtakam)

Also known as sri anjaneya mangalashtakam · shree anjaneya mangalashtakam · anjaneya mangalashtakam

Eight verses that ask for nothing, which is what a mangalashtakam is — each ends by pronouncing auspiciousness upon Anjaneya rather than requesting anything from him. The deeds it picks are the harder ones. Sugriva's dear counsellor and the destroyer of Janaki's grief; swift as thought, and fierce; the splitter of Kalanemi; the giver of Lakshmana's life; the loosener of Durdandi's bonds; and the destroyer of Mairavana, which takes the hymn down into Patala, where Rama and Lakshmana were carried off and had to be fetched back. Then it turns from what he did to what he is: a mountain for a weapon in his hand, ruin of the demon race, devoted to Rama's feet, detached, of good conduct, the very form of Rudra, and served by the sages.
