Goddess Tara

श्रीताराप्रातःस्मरणम्

(Sri Tara Pratah Smaranam)

Also known as shri chandi pratah smaranam 2 · sri chandi pratah smaranam (sri tara smarana stotram) · shree chandi pratah smaranam (sri tara smarana stotram)

Five verses of morning remembrance to Tara, each opening on the hour in the manner of the genre — at dawn I remember, at dawn I bow. The slug and the older English title of this record call it a Chandi text, but its own heading and colophon name Tara, and so does every verse. What is remembered is the ferrywoman: I remember you at dawn, the one who carries across becoming, gently smiling, three-eyed, the colour of a heavy blue cloud, holding chopper and skull and blue lotus and sword. A later verse gives the fiercer half — a broad garland of human skulls, swaying heavily with wine, her waist bright with a tiger skin — and calls her the remover of dullness and the swift giver of accomplishment.
