ଶ୍ରୀମୂକାମ୍ବିକାଷ୍ଟକମ୍

Eight verses whose refrain salutes her as Mahalakshmi, mistress of Kolapura — Kollur, where the shrine stands — and which pause twice to explain her names from within the hymn. Because the throngs of her devotees are looked upon by her glance full of grace, the fourth verse says, she is sung as Lakshmi; because men without skill in speech are mute, and it is they who pray to her hardest for what they want, she is Mukambika. The rest sets Brahma, Shiva and Hari creating, devouring and protecting by nothing more than a glance of hers, dissolves the universe in her womb, and places her in every creature as intelligence. The seventh verse names the linga called Chakraraja and the heart-lotus of the sage Kola. The closing verse calls the whole an ashtaka of Lakshmi.
