ശ്രീ ചിദമ്ബരേശ്വര സ്തോത്രമ്

Seventeen verses to the lord of Chidambaram, each closing on the same line — I contemplate the lord of Chidambaram in my heart — and built out of short closed epithets rather than long compounds, which makes it the most immediately readable of the several Chidambaram hymns collected here. Sea of compassion, fair-faced, three-eyed, wearer of matted hair, whose left side is Parvati's; Sadashiva, Rudra, of endless form. The second verse is a good example of its manner, moving from the metaphysical to the domestic in four lines: beyond speech, his limbs ornamented with serpents, the father of Ganesha, the friend of the lord of wealth, destroyer of Kandarpa, whose eyes are the lotus and the blue lotus. The last verse ties it to the hour of pradosha.
