Goddess Devi

devī pañcaratnastuti

(Sri Devi Pancharatna Stuti in English (IAST))

Ramasharman

Also known as shri devi pancharatna stuti · shree devi pancharatna stuti · devi pancharatna stuti

Five verses whose whole method is a single sound. Every line of the first is built to bring the syllable mbha back — the enemy of Jambha and the assembly of Aditi's sons who honour her, the pot-shaped breasts, the hater of the demon Shumbha, thighs like plantain stems, speech gathered like nectar, and at last the auspicious lady herself, the remover of the pride of the ill-disposed. The device is kept up through all five, which is the point of calling them jewels. The closing verse names the poet as Ramasharman, calls the set the praise of the beloved of the five-faced one, and asks that Parvati be pleased with it.
