ଶ୍ରୀ ଗୁରୁମୂର୍ତି ମଙ୍ଗଲ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍

Fifteen verses of blessing to Shiva as the Guru form, each closing on the word mangalam, and it is built over two sequences that are easy to walk past. The first is the five faces: Vamadeva in the opening verse, then Sadyojata, then Ishana above, then Aghora, each set among ordinary epithets rather than announced. The second is unmistakable once noticed — verses ten to fourteen salute the letters na, ma, shi, va and ya in order, one to a verse, so that the five-syllable mantra is spelled down the middle of the hymn. Around that the verses do a mangala's usual work, wishing well to the giver of boons who lives at the foot of the banyan, to the one Durvasas worshipped, to the one whose form is sound. The last verse names Arunachala outright, and the closing line calls the whole of it a dawn hymn.
