Lord Shukra

śrī śukra caturviṃśatināma stotram

(Sri Shukra Chaturvimshati Nama Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as shri shukra chaturvimshati nama stotram · shree shukra chaturvimshati nama stotram · shukra chaturvimshati nama stotram

Twenty-four names of Venus from the Skanda Purana, and the pair that opens the list is the interesting one, because it contradicts itself on purpose: he is the maker of rain and the obstructer of rain in a single line, which is not carelessness but the astrologer's Venus, whose position decides whether the season breaks. After that the names divide between the teacher and the planet. As teacher he is Ushanas and Kavi, the reviver of the daityas, the leader of the daityas, the maker of polity, best of those who know yoga. As a body in the sky he is the auspicious planet, a treasury of light, wearing white garlands and white cloth, with the sheen of sandal paste and a rosary in his hand. Its closing verse promises that even when he stands in a difficult house he will be pleased.
