Lord Surya

śrī sūrya stavarāja stotram

(Sri Surya Stavaraja Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as surya stavaraja · brahma vaivarta surya stotra · sri surya stavaraja stotram brahmavaivarta purana

Brahmā's Stavarāja from the Gaṇapati Khaṇḍa of the Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa, which opens by declaring what it takes itself to be: a praise spoken in the Sāma Veda, releasing from disease, carrying off all wrong, giving wealth and health. It does not make the Sun uniformly kind. He gives fruit according to the deed and is himself the seed of the deed; he is always the giver of pain to those who do wrong; and one line sets the two sides together without softening either — the giver of disease and the slayer of disease. He is directly present to all the worlds and at the same time not present to them. The closing verses name conditions and afflictions exactly: recited at the three junctures of the day, and heard through a month by one keeping to sacrificial food, it is promised to release the leper, the wasted, the blind, the man of great sores and the consumptive.
