Lord Shiva

agastyāṣṭakam

(Agastya Ashtakam in English (IAST))

Agastya

Also known as agastyashtakam shiva · adya me saphalam janma · agastya krita shiva stotram

Eight verses spoken at the moment of seeing, and the whole hymn is about that moment rather than about the god. Today my birth has borne fruit, and today my austerity has borne fruit, and today my knowledge has borne fruit, Shambhu — from the sight of your feet. The second verse says the same thing three times over because once will not do: I have gained my end, I have gained my end, I have gained my end, Maheshvara, from today's sight of your lotus feet, you who are fond of your devotees. Nothing is asked for anywhere in the eight verses, which is unusual in this collection. The closing verse gives the fruit as the same experience repeated: whoever reads this in Shiva's presence obtains Shiva's world and rejoices there with him.
