Lord Budha (Mercury)

श्री बुध देव की आरती

(Shree Budha Dev Aarti)

Also known as budha dev aarti · arati kijai budha deva ki buddhi

A short Hindi arati to Budha in four turns of the refrain, keeping throughout to the domestic business of a Wednesday. A golden pot shines in his hand and gods and men and sages are held by the sight of him; he is the Moon's son and Rohini's, and those who have come for shelter ask that their honour be kept. Then the offering every Mercury text names, the green mung dal, and what it brings; then the yellow cloth on the body that takes the devotees' minds. The last turn is about the fast, and says that whoever keeps the Wednesday vow has the troubles of birth after birth carried off. Its signature line puns on the god's own name, the poet calling himself Budha as he says that whoever comes for refuge has every wish fulfilled.
