Goddess Durga

श्रीचण्डी (दुर्गा) प्रातःस्मरणम्

(Shri Chandi Pratah Smaranam)

Also known as sri chandi pratah smaranam · shree chandi pratah smaranam · chandi pratah smaranam

Three verses for the first waking of the day, each opening on the hour: at dawn I remember, at dawn I bow, at dawn I worship. What is remembered is her form — bright as the rays of the autumn moon, makara earrings and a necklace of true gems, a thousand dark-blue arms strong with divine weapons, feet the colour of red lotuses. What is bowed to is her work: the destroyer of Mahishasura, of Chanda and Munda, of Shumbha and the rest, whose play bewilders Brahma, Indra and the sages, and who is the embodied form of all the gods at once. What is worshipped is the supreme Maya, sustainer of the worlds, the cause by which the bonds of birth are loosed. A fourth verse says that whoever reads the three obtains all he desires.
