Ten short verses to the Hanuman of Ghatikachala, each of them a bow and nothing else. What they describe is not the messenger but the ascetic of that hill: four-armed and bright with it, bearing conch and discus and mace, mounted on the posture of yoga, the colour of the young sun, with a loincloth, a girdle-cord and golden earrings. The fifth verse gives the legend the shrine is built on — he has turned to face Narasimha, taken his place on the peak, and is asking for the station of Brahma. The rest keep to the leap and to the form: crosser of the sea, swift as the wind, shining like a ruby, able to take whatever shape he wants, standing at the coral tree, a walker in the woods. It is to be read at daybreak.
