Lord Shiva

śrī śivaśaṃkara jī kī āratī

(Shri Shivshankar Ji Ki Aarti in English (IAST))

Also known as shiv shankar aarti · ganpati jhanjh bhairon jhalar · shivshankar ji ki aarti hindi

A short Hindi aarti built almost entirely out of an orchestra, which is what makes it unlike the other Shiva aartis here — instead of describing the god it describes the company around him, each with an instrument. Ganapati has the cymbals and Bhairava the clashing bells; the vina is in Narada's hands, and Sharada sings his praise. The scene is the one a temple actually looks like at the moment the aarti is sung, a room full of noise with the lamp going round, and the hymn simply names the noise. Eight short verses, no theology, and the tune is carried by the rhythm of the instruments themselves.

hari kara dīpaka, bajāvaiṃ saṃkha surapati,
ganapati jhā~jha, bhairauṃ jhālara jharata haiṃ|
nāradake kara bīna, sāradā gāvata jasa,
cārimukha cāri beda bidhi ucarata haiṃ||
ghaṭamukha raṭata sahasramukha siva siva,
sanaka-sanaṃdadi pā~vana parata haiṃ|
'bālakṛṣṇa' tīno loka, tīsa aura tīno koṭi,
ete śiva-śaṃkarakī ārati karata haiṃ||
|| iti saṃpūrṇaṃm ||
