ଶ୍ରୀ ଦକ୍ଷିଣାମୂର୍ତ୍ଯଷ୍ଟକମ୍ ୨ (ଵ୍ଯାସ କୃତମ୍)

Eight verses to Shiva as the teacher under the banyan, each closing on the same double salutation. The first addresses him as the guru hidden in the crest of all the Vedas, whose body is dense with the happiness of knowing the self as brahman. The second states the whole doctrine of the image: by his mere presence this world of moving and unmoving things appears, and with the gesture of his own fingers he says without ceasing that it is consciousness only. Later verses set him above the gods who themselves bow to him, and the last takes up the three states of the living being wandering by ignorance in the hard-crossed wheel of birth, and the knowledge by which the same being becomes absorbed in its own awareness. The title gives the hymn to Vyasa.
