ଶ୍ରୀ ଗୋଵର୍ଧନଧରାଷ୍ଟକମ୍

Eight verses by Gokulachandra on the same subject as the two other Govardhana ashtakas here, and the plainest of the three in form — anushtubh throughout, four short feet to a verse, with none of the long compounding the others rely on. I worship the holder of Govardhana: sun to the lotus faces of the cowherd women, the flute at his mouth, the enjoyer of Radhika's rasa; life of the cowherd city and breaker of his servants' fear; night and day the averter of the fire of separation in Vraja's women, dark as a great emerald; his mouth full of butter and milk and his mother glad of it; standing at the centre of the rasa circle; his lotus feet marked with flag and thunderbolt. The last verse comes back to the rain that gives him the name, and calls him the moon to the chakora eyes of his devotees. Its stated fruit is not release but rati.
