Goddess Matangi

ஶ்ரீமாதங்கீத்யாநம்

(Srimatangidhyanam in Tamil)

Also known as talidalenarpitakarnabhusam

Five meditation verses on Matangi, and they do not describe one figure but several. The first is gentle: an ear-ornament made of a tali leaf, lotus eyes swaying with honey-wine, heavy-breasted, the bride of Shambhu, her lustre a streak of lightning. The third is the courtly form — ruby ornaments, a smiling face, the colour of a blue lotus, feet reddened with lac, three eyes bright, intent on playing the vina, dark as a parrot's wing, her mouth full of betel. The fifth turns to the left-hand form and does not soften it: a girl of sixteen upon a corpse, swaying with wine, dark-limbed in a red garment, ornamented with gunja berries, a skull in one hand and a sharp chopper in the other, and named Ucchishta-chandalini.
