श्री पराङ्कुशाष्टकम्

(Sri Parankusa Ashtakam)

Also known as shri parankusa ashtakam · shree parankusa ashtakam · parankusa ashtakam

Eight verses by Parasara Bhattar to Nammalvar, called here by his Sanskrit name Parankusa, and it is a Srivaishnava text praising a Tamil poet in Sanskrit. What it praises is not miracles but a body of work and the affection behind it. He is the ornament on the heads of the elders learned in the three Vedas, and the wealth of people of the good disposition, and a refuge for those who have none — and what is taken refuge in is named as the two feet of the one whose ornament is the bakula flower, which is Nammalvar's own emblem. The second verse calls him a shoreless ocean, filled with the flood of the essence of love, a treasury of the jewels that are the meanings of the Veda. The third is the finest: we serve the seer who arose as though he were the very principle of thirst for Krishna.
