Lord Rama

श्री रामचन्द्राष्टकम्

(Sri Ramachandra Ashtakam (Sugriva Mitram))

Also known as shri ramachandra ashtakam · shree ramachandra ashtakam · ramachandra ashtakam

Eight verses in which every line rhymes on the same syllable, so that the whole moves on one sound: friend of Sugriva, supremely pure, having Sita for wife, his body a fresh raincloud, a vessel of compassion, eyes like the hundred-petalled lotus — and then the same again for the essence of the world, the current of the Vedas, the descent of dharma, the taker-away of the earth's burden, changeless, the heart of the ocean of ease. Each verse closes by saluting Ramachandra continually. The last verse shows who is speaking and to whom: it is addressed to a goddess, and the speaker calls it an eight-verse hymn of his own making, promising their desires to those who read or hear it.
