Lord Shani

śrī śanaiścara dvādaśanāma stotram

(Sri Shani Dwadasa Nama Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as shri shani dwadasa nama stotram · shree shani dwadasa nama stotram · shani dwadasa nama stotram

Twelve names in two verses, and a promise in the third that no other Śani text makes in the same voice. The names are Śanaiścara, Svadhākārin, son of Chāyā, delight of the Sun, born of Mārtaṇḍa, Yama, Sauri, the lame one, chief of the planets, devoted to brahman, knower of the dharma that is without cruelty, of blue colour and the sheen of collyrium. Then the god speaks in the first person, and the promise is stated in the precise vocabulary of the horoscope rather than in general terms: I shall not cause him affliction, there is no doubt of it — not in transit, not at the natal ascendant, and not in the major or the minor periods. Naming the three ways Saturn is calculated to press on a life, and excluding all three, is what has kept this very short text in daily use.
