শ্রীসূক্তাষ্টোত্তরশতনামাবলী
(Sri Suktha Ashtottara Shatanamavali in Bengali)
Also known as sri sukta 108 names · sri suktam namavali · hiranyavarnayai namah
A hundred and eight names of Lakshmi for offering, and they are not composed at all: they are lifted straight out of the Shri Sukta, word by word, and turned into salutations. So the archana opens as the hymn does, with the one of golden colour, then the doe, then the one wearing garlands of gold and of silver, the golden one, the one who does not go away, the one preceded by horses and standing in the middle of a chariot and awakened by the trumpeting of elephants. Anyone who knows the Vedic hymn hears it running underneath. That construction is the reason the list has so few ordinary epithets in it and so many odd concrete ones, and it makes the record usable as an archana in a rite where the Shri Sukta itself is being recited over the offering.
