śrī sūrya stotram (deva kṛtam)

The gods' praise of the Sun in the seventy-fifth chapter of the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa, built almost entirely on the three Vedas: salutation to you whose form is Ṛk, whose form is Sāman, whose form is Yajus, and who is the abode of the Sāmans. The middle verses give the reason for that identification and carry the hymn's real argument — all the ṛcs are yours and these yajuses, and all the sāmans fall from your body; and purity itself comes of contact with your rays, so that until this world is joined to them, water is not made clean by touch, and neither oblation nor gift does any good at all. It ends where the other Mārkaṇḍeya hymn to the Sun ends, asking him to take on a form of his own choosing and make his own heat gentle, and it directs that it be received in the posture of a disciple, seated and composed.
