ଶ୍ରୀ ଉମା ଅଷ୍ଟୋତ୍ତରଶତନାମ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍

The hundred and eight names of Umā in verse, and the opening line does the work of a whole tradition in eight words by setting her chief names side by side: Umā, Kātyāyanī, Gaurī, Kālī, Haimavatī, Īśvarī. The verses that follow gather every name by which the great goddess is known in the Purāṇas — Śivā, Bhavānī, Rudrāṇī, Śarvāṇī, Sarvamaṅgalā; Aparṇā, Pārvatī, Durgā, Mṛḍānī, Caṇḍikā, Ambikā; Āryā, Dākṣāyaṇī, Girijā and the daughter of Menakā. Between the great titles the list keeps returning to the domestic and the maternal, naming her the mother of Skanda, compassionate by nature, the protector of devotees, the delight of their minds, and eternally young. It closes on Tripurabhairavī and Tripurasundarī, which places the list at the meeting point of the Purāṇic and the Śrīvidyā traditions.
