ଶ୍ରୀ ଵେଙ୍କଟେଶ ଵିଜଯ ସ୍ତୋତ୍ରମ୍ (Success & Victory)

A hymn of acclamation rather than petition, its verses closing on the same imperative — vijayī bhava, be victorious — addressed to the lord of Veṅkaṭa hill. The construction is by doubling: god of gods, auspiciousness of auspiciousness, purifier of purifiers, cause of causes. Its third verse is the one that stays, and it turns the hill's own name into the image: dweller on Añjana hill, stainless one, dark as the collyrium that beautifies all people — and then asks to be sprinkled, bathe me with a glance that rains cool droplets of the nectar of your compassion. Elsewhere it names the god as skilled in ferrying across the terrible ocean of becoming, and places him at the shore of Svāmi Puṣkariṇī, the temple tank, absorbed in play with Ramā. Its closing verse recommends daily recitation to one who desires what is good.
