Goddess Lalita

śrī tripurasundarī prātaḥ smaraṇam

(Tripura Sundari Pratah Smaranam in English (IAST))

Also known as tripura sundari · tripura sundari mantra · tripur sundari

Nine verses that begin as a morning salutation to the feet and end somewhere much stranger. The first five bow at dawn to the lotus feet of the mother of the worlds — the feet whose washing-water shines on Mahesha's head as the Ganga, the feet by which Hari, Hara and Virinchi are set to the work of creating — and a sixth closes them off with the usual promise, that she gives her own state to whoever reads the five daily. Then three verses in another metre change the subject to the day ahead: rising at dawn, the speaker says, it is by your command alone and for your pleasure that I shall carry on the journey of the world. The last of them is the confession that I know what is right and have no inclination toward it, turned here to the Goddess.
