Lord Rama

tvameva brūhi stotram

(Tvameva Bruhi Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as tvameva bruhi stotra · asiddharadhamalalamarupo nasidaho kasya gururgariyan

Six verses addressed to Rama about the condition of Ayodhya, and modern in a way that nothing else in this cluster is. The first remembers the place as it was, the ornament of the earth. The second says that the city, once purer than the city of the gods, is now seen occupied by mlecchas, and asks the heart whether it is not pained by the sight. The refrain is the title: you yourself tell me. The last verse turns the appeal into a reproach — if you show no mercy now, cloud of compassion, then though you are called the friend of the destitute you are making yourself hard; to whom is this Bharata to go today? The hymn is political in a register the rest of the corpus does not use, and it says so plainly rather than by implication.
