Lord Brihaspati

śrī bṛhaspati deva kī āratī

(Brihaspati Dev Aarti in English (IAST))

Also known as jaya vrhaspati deva

A Hindi arati to Brihaspati sung to the refrain om jaya Brihaspati deva, and it is notable for how little of the planet is in it. Almost nothing here is astrological: he is addressed as the complete supreme self, the inner ruler, the father of the world and its lord, the lord of everyone, and the giver of every wish. The offering named is the plainest a household would have, banana fruit and dried fruit, brought moment after moment. The one image that stays is in the fourth verse, and it is domestic rather than celestial: whoever gives up body and mind and wealth and comes for shelter finds the lord appearing and standing at his door. It closes on the poet's name, Jethanand, and with the cry raised for Vishnu, which is where Jupiter belongs in the Thursday observance.
