Lord Vitthal

জয দেব জয দেব পংঢরীরাযা

(Jaya Deva Jaya Deva Pamdhariraya in Bengali)

Also known as dhuparati pandhariraya marathi

The incense arati of the Pandharpur sequence, sung as the dhupa is raised before Vitthal, and its two short verses turn the offering inside out. The god is addressed first as fire itself, clear-burning, a mass of his own light; so what the worshipper brings cannot be the smoke. It is the sense of being the doer that he sets alight and burns away by grace, and the gladness left behind when it has gone is what fills the singer's mind. The second verse names him full bliss, being and consciousness and bliss, the supreme self, the root of joy, and asks him to complete whatever his devotees have set their hearts on. It ends by asking him to accept the incense and to give in exchange the bliss of brahman.
