chandas Prose (a mala mantra)
ବୀଜାକ୍ଷର seed syllables — Klim, hrim, shrim, aim, glaum, kraum, gam and the rest are seed syllables. They carry the power of a mantra and are chanted exactly as written, without translation.
ସ୍ତମ୍ଭଯ ଉଚ୍ଚାଟଯ ମାରଯ halt, drive away, strike down — These commands name the traditional acts of tantric ritual. Here they are turned against illness, evil planets, and harmful rites directed at the one who prays.
ପଲ୍ଲଵ mantra ending — In mantra language, pallava is the closing word of a mantra, such as svaha or namah.
note A mala mantra, 'garland mantra', is a long mantra strung together from names, seed syllables and commands. The printed text has a few slips, such as ଦୁଷ୍ଟଗ୍ରହାନ for ଦୁଷ୍ଟଗ୍ରହାନ୍; the word-by-word follows the usual forms.
