jagaddhātrī stotram

(Jagaddhatri Stotram in English (IAST))

Also known as jagaddhatri stotra · adharabhute cadheye dhrtirupe dhurandhare dhruve dhruvapade

Eleven verses to Jagaddhatri, the bearer of the world, each ending on the same salutation to her. The first is composed almost entirely of words opening in dha — support and supported, the form of steadiness, bearer of the burden, fixed, the fixed station, the steady one — and the second sets the Shakta frame plainly, addressing her as having the form of the corpse and the form of power, established in power, her very body power, and as loving the Shakta observance. What follows moves between the subtle and the cosmic: the form of the breath drawn in and let out, of being and non-being, of time and beyond time; the power within the crores of mantras; the essence of pilgrimage, sacrifice, austerity, giving and yoga; and, in the tenth verse, compassion itself, wet with pity.
