Lord Vitthal

śrī viṭhṭhala naivedya āratī (jaya deva jaya deva jaya viṭhābāī)

(Naivedya Aarti in English (IAST))

The food arati of the Pandharpur sequence, and alone among them it addresses the god in the feminine, jaya deva jaya deva jaya Vithabai, Vitthal of Pandharpur as Vithu Mauli, the mother. That address governs everything after it. The dishes of the six tastes are set before her and she is asked to be gracious enough to accept them, and the reason given for feeding her is not that she is hungry but that when the mother eats, every living thing is satisfied, the sustenance of all of them lying at her feet. The second verse asks her to eat as she pleases and then makes the only request in the hymn: let what is left over come back to her devotee as prasada. The singer asks for nothing else, and lays his head at her feet.
