Lord Dakshinamurti

ఓం నమః ప్రణవార్థాయ

(Om Namah Pranavarthaya in Telugu)

Also known as om namah pranavarthaya suddhajnanaikamurtaye

This profound verse from the Sri Dakshinamurti Stotram, composed by Sri Adi Sankaracharya, encapsulates the highest teaching of Vedanta. Sri Dakshinamurti (one who faces South) represents the supreme teacher - that aspect of Reality which reveals the truth of one's own nature through silence. In this form, Lord Shiva is depicted in eternal silence, teaching through presence rather than words, indicating that the highest truth transcends mental concepts and can only be pointed to through symbols and silence. In this spirit, the verse opens with its praise of Sri Dakshinamurti as "Praṇavārthāya", embodying the deepest meaning of Oṃ (Praṇava), the Supreme Reality.
