ஶ்ரீ ஶிவ க்ரு'த துர்கா ஸ்தோத்ர
(Shiv Krit Durga Stotra in Tamil)
Also known as shiva krita durga stotram · raksha raksha mahadevi · raksa raksa mahadevi durge durgatinasini mam
Twenty-two verses in which Shiva praises the Goddess, and the first line gives the situation away: protect me, he asks, your own devotee, seized by enemies. What follows is a long identification. She is Vishnumaya and Narayani; by maya the Purusha and by maya Prakriti herself; Mahalakshmi in Vaikuntha, Rajalakshmi on earth, the household deity in houses; Sarasvati to Brahma and, in Goloka, Radha upon Krishna's breast, presiding over every grove of Vrindavana — a vocabulary that places the hymn squarely in the world of the Brahmavaivarta. She is the burning in fire, the coolness in water, the scent in earth, the sound in the sky. The close admits defeat: the thousand-mouthed one cannot praise her, nor the Vedas, nor Sarasvati, nor Brahma, nor Vishnu — what then can five mouths do?
