Lord Rama (Bharata)

śrī bharata jī kī āratī

(Shree Bharat Ji Ki Aarti (Hindi) in English (IAST))

Also known as bharat ji ki aarti (hindi) · ji ki aarti · arati aratiharana bharataki

An arati not to Rama but to his brother, and the first line puts the pun the whole song rests on: the arati of Bharata, who is himself the remover of arti, of distress. What it praises him for is his attachment to another's feet — he is called one devoted to the lotus feet of Sita and Rama before any quality of his own is named. Then the qualities: bearer of the burden of dharma, steadfast, best among the brave. Fourteen short lines in Hindi, and the interest of it is that a brother who rules only as a regent, keeping his elder's sandals on the throne, is given an arati of his own in the same form the god receives.
