Lord Khandoba (Shiva)

ಶ್ರೀ ಖಂಡೋಬಾಚೀ ಆರತೀ (ಪಂಚಾನನ ಹಯವಾಹನ)

(Shree Khandoba Aarti (Marathi) in Kannada)

Also known as khandoba aarti (marathi) · marathi aarti · aarti marathi

The Marathi arati of Khandoba at Jejuri, and it opens on a figure that is Shiva and a horseman at once: five-faced, riding a horse, dark and adorned, marked with the sword, and effortlessly punishing demons. The next line names the two the god is named for and what the worship looks like — having crushed Mani and Malla he is yellow with turmeric, which is the bhandara thrown by handfuls at his shrine — and then the bridegroom's ornaments, diamond bangles and the marriage crown and garlands of flowers. Its refrain calls him Shiva Malhari. The third verse gives the theology the Ramdasi tradition puts on him: Shankara, cooled in his heart by the remembrance of Rama, became this slayer of Malla. Signed by Ramdas.
